Loose Change

There's no reason for that title I was just browsing the my email previous to posting this and that phrase stood out.

Hey there. Haven't written in a while, been thinking of changing the subject matter a bit but that's more a reflection of how my life has changed since the last time posting.

Currently interning and getting prepped for my trip to Boston. It's become a yearly thing to travel to the Massachusetts area for our annual family reunion and this year is no different. Only thing is I'm about two months from graduating and inundated with events. At this point I'm trying to be productively social, we'll see how that works out.

I say all this to try to illustrate the fact that there is ZERO free time to be had. Yet somehow, true to form, I got inspired and decided to make this bitch -

I don't know how I feel about it. It's clean which is nice and not something I'm always good at. Here are all the decisions behind it :

COLORS

- White // Blue = colors from my family crest, this is a family reunion trip after all
- Green // Gold = traditional irish colors

TIMES

- All the type aligned to the right is a timeline of how many hours I had from the moment I started this
poster to the moment I leave for the airport // the beginning of my trip

ARROWS

- pretty obvious, representing travel. I made them grow longer as the time grew nearer to represent    getting closer to my destination...again pretty obvious.

BACKGROUND

- Mostly the blue from the crest but I also over-laid a layer water for texture. When going to Boston we spend most of our time down around the shore, so the ocean is a big part of the experience.

- I also made a vector of the city limits of Lynn, Mass. That's where we stay with family and that's the shape you see transitioning the colors from one palette to another.

GRID

- Oh yeah, back to the basics. To start I made a 11 x 17 spread, long to represent a list or itinerary. Then I thought about what type of grid to make. I'll be gone for 4 day and 4 nights so I figured a 4x4 grid would be fine to start. I can't say I stuck with that grid throughout, I know I didn't in fact. But it was a good starting point regardless.

CONCLUSION

Am I happy with the final result? To an extent. It still feels a little distant to me, not as intriguing as it could be but then again I'm making speculations on a trip I haven't been on yet. It's neat. So I like that, as I mentioned that's a struggle for me sometimes.

We'll see.
